The José Estêvão Secondary School is one of the oldest of this country . It was created in 1851. Until 1860 it went through various provisory instalations. Thanks to our protector José Estêvão who pressionated the Parliament to its inauguration in 1860. With various and succes-sive Reforms of the Lyceum schooling, the Lyceum of Aveiro was growing in courses and in number of students. This took José P. Tavares its principal to fight for the construction of a new building.In October 13th 1952 the new building was solemny inaugurated. After the Revolution of April 25th 74 the school recovers its old protector and becomes known as Secondary School of José Estêvão. It's today a central school in the city and takes students from the Elementary and Secondary grades  as well as night school for   students who wish to finalize the Secondary level.
