Project Summary

The  aim of this project is the improvement of efficiency and efficacy of the educational system in the partner schools, by using evaluation (of the students, teachers, managers, and  educational-instructive process) as a managerial tool.

 

 

 

 

Project Summary 

The  aim of this project is the improvement of efficiency and efficacy of the educational system in the partner schools by using evaluation (of the students, teachers, managers, and  educational-instructive process) as a managerial means. 

We will try to develop (at the partner schools level) a common culture for the evaluation of some aspects in the educational process.

We will have in view the following aspects:

·         establishing, in a trans-disciplinary vision , of  some achievements indicators with a special regard to the students’ skills, values and attitudes created by the teaching –learning process

·         creation and implementation in the partner schools of evaluation methodology and instruments for evaluating these skills;

·       creation of an institutional evaluating system.

In our approach, using the experience of our psyho-pedagogical experts, we will try to establish a connection between the personalized and  flexible teaching-learning methods and the evaluation methods.

ACTIVITIES 1st  year

1.       Which project activities have taken place so far in the school year 2002/03?

·          Organizing activities

o      The selection of the teams members, tasks allocation and “Team building” training courses for  teachers involved in the project;

o      Creating the working plan and the evaluation plan

o      Establishing the contact between teachers with the same task from partner countries;

·          Individual and team study/research/training cources  focused on different topics related to the project:

o      What teachers need to know about assessment (standards for evaluation, indicators , specification grid);

o      Assessment purposes and value added assessment;

o      Managing the evaluation;

o      Assessment of students achievement;

o      MICE instruments for project evaluation.

·          Constructing  activities                             

o      Creating and presentation reports  about the national educational system at the team level 

o      Translation and sending to the partners  the reports about the national educational system; 

o      Creating the project web page .

·          Dissemination activities (articles in the school’s magazines i,nformation panels at each school level)

·          Project self evaluation activities (of the progress) using MICE instruments-each school established fields and instruments for self-evaluation

·          Mobilities

o  Project meeting in Sàtoraljaùjhely Hungary between 10-17November  (1-2 teachers from every partner countries) – we discused the working and evaluation plan and details about the renewal of the project.

      Taking into account the activity plan for the first year of the project, we have to mention that some teacher exchanges planed for September-October did not take place. This was caused by the fact that the financing for the project came in November in some countries.. In order to eliminate this difficulty we changed the periods for these teacher exchanges. Also. because the Norway school wasn’t approved in the project we changed the mobilities to Norway with mobilities in other partner countries.

ACTIVITIES 2nd  year

1. 

·          EXPAND the brief to include  :

§       Evaluation in Sciencies

§       Quality evaluation methods concerning:

o      Students’ achievements (knowledge, skills, attitudes)

o      The teaching –learning process (the quality of teaching, learning and of evaluation as part of the teaching process)

o      Management and quality assurance in school

·          IMPLEMENTATION of the local evaluation methodology and intruments in the other partner countries 

·          INDIVIDUAL and TEAM  RESEARCH focused on different topics related to the project

·          CREATING AND PRESENTING MATERIALS at local level.

·          MOBILITIES : project meetings for teachers and students and teachers exchanges

        As outcomes of this project we want to achieve:

q         A self-evaluation guide of the educational system that will contain:

·       Performance indicators

·       Evaluation methods and instruments

·       Practical examples of the self-evaluation in some key-domains

·       management and quality assurance

q         A web page of the project

q         Articles in the competent press

q         Publicity panels in the school

  q       A CD-rom with the project materials

·   Project EVALUATION activities:

Through the evaluation of this project we understand to evaluate the process of the project implementation as well as the local effects during this project at every concerned school level. We also want to evaluate the outcomes of this project.

With a view to evaluation we will elaborate a detailed monitoring and evaluation plan for each activity  as well as for the outcomes of it.

For the evaluation we will use instruments created in the Comenius 2 project, “MICE” or we will design our own instruments taking account of the principles of the evaluation:

q         The principle of the effectiveness

q         The principle of efficiency

q         The principle of feasibility

q         The principle of the progress

q         The principle of the project impact

For evaluating the effects of this project, each partner school will establish what fields they want to evaluate and we will negotiate and establish two fields that are to be evaluated by every partner school.

·  DISEMINATION activities

·  For the dissemination of a good practice and the competence achieved looking at the evaluation  we intent to propose a Comenius 3 project on  “Evaluation and Quality Management in Preuniversitary Education”

·  For the project dissemination each team will elaborate an own plan for local dissemination. The following possibilities will be taken in consideration:

q              the local or central press

q              open classes and methodical activities

q              local, national, international presentations.

q              the project web page

       The evaluation guide which we will create will be distributed in other schools.

ACTIVITIES 3rd  year

  • EXPAND the brief to include  :

§                Students evaluation on other curricular areas and subjects Geography, History, Arts

§                Quality evaluation methods concerning:

o        The teaching –learning process (the quality of teaching, learning and of evaluation as part of the teaching process)

o        Management and quality assurance in school

  • IMPLEMENTATION and IMPROVING the instruments created during the 1st year for evaluation of the studens’ skills Implementation of the   istruments to evaluate the quality in school created during the 2nd year
  • INDIVIDUAL and TEAM  RESEARCH focused on different topics related to the project
  • CREATING AND PRESENTING MATERIALS at local, national and European level (I-ProbeNet Conferince).

·         The material –evaluation instruments, guidelines to use them, will be created by students and teachers

·         Students will create a project’s newsletter

  • MOBILITIES : project meetings for teachers and students, teachers exchanges and teachers participation to Comenius 3 I-ProbeNet Conferince

Because next year is the last year of the project, the dissemination will be a Key activity. During the first project meeting in Portugal we wil create a very detailed dissemination plan both for local and european level.

q       local, national (organized by National Socrates Agencies),  international presentations, and seminars.

q       the project web pages

q       the evaluation guide which we will create will be distributed in other schools.
