Simple Past

  Form The simple past  of  regular verbs is formed adding  -d or -ed to the infinitive.

The simple past of irregular verbs has no fixed rule. You have to memorize them. See Verblist

  Use 1.Actions which started and finished at a definite time in the past.

I was in London last month.

2.Finished repeated actions or situations.

My grandmother made delicious cakes every weekend.

3.Two actions that happened quickly one after the other.

When the rain stopped we hurried home.

4.When one action interrupts another also in the past.

The telephone rang when I was cooking.
