Past perfect

Form

 Simple past of to have( had) + Past Participle

                              He had worked hard.

Use

1.To refer to the first of two past actions. When we arrived at the airport, the plane had already left.
2. To refer to an action that happened before a stated time. We had  heard about the bombings when they showed it on the news.
