INTRODUCTION - As we reach the end of the century, we are fully aware of the challenge this school has to face, namely the deep crisis in important values, such as self-esteem, mutual respect, justice, freedom and solidarity. We are concerned about the involvement of the whole educational community, so that school can be a place where students cna develop a project involving the largest number of people: staff and students, parents, municipality, cultural and recreational groups

EDUCATIONAL PROJECT,  OBJECTIVES - To promote the quality of learning; to ensure an effective connection throughout the different stages in learnig, to crate conditions which help to connect school to professional life; to promote the involvemente of staff, studen´ts, parents, municipality, cultural and reacreational groups; to use alternative curricula, not neglecting the basic learnig; to find an answer for the needs of additional learnig for the staff; to mamage the resources meant to support the different activities; to improve the conditions so that school can really achieve its aims; to use technogical means; to provide for a personalised help regarding handicapped children; to promote  personal and social development for students to reach sef-achievement; to make the school a pleasant place.

ENVIRONMENT FEACTURES - Murtosa ocupies one of the smallest areas in  Aveiro district. There are about 10.000 inhabitants all spread over Murtosa, Monte, Bunheiro, e Torreira. Though the farmers had been the first inhabitants, fishing and trading were the activities which developed  Pardelhas.


FISHING - Torreira  is very important in seas fishery, but in "Ria" there are also eels, soles, grey mullets, etc. Only 19 % of fishermen till fish in Torreira. Everybody wants to emigrate or if they don´t they prefer working in deep-sea; those who fish in  "Ria" are sometimes subject to legal imposings, because of the pollution.

TRADE - It involves 10 % of the inhabitants, specially in Torreira, in summer. There are more banks, restaurants and goldsmith´s shops.

INDUSTRY - Has incresased. COMUR, the sauce eels factory is widely known. Lately because of agricultural needs, another factory was built: GELCAMPO.
 

HANDICRAFT - Let´s mention the famous Rus-mats, rugs, patchwork-quilts and the seaweed boats, the small River-boats, the yokes and dish-clothes, all in mimiature.

 

TOURISM - It´s veryimportant because of ”Ria” and Torreira beach. Torreira has got a camping site, two Inns, cafés, restaurants, a post-office, a bank, a market, a chemist´s, etc.

THE POPULAR FESTIVALS - The most famous is “S. Paio da Torreira”. The tourists and the local population enjoy it very much. It lasts for 3 days: 6 th, 7 th and 8 th September, being the 8 th Municipal holiday. Besides S. Paio, there are other festivals, such as “S. Mateus” on the 21 st September; “S. Gonçalo” (10 th January); “S. Simão” (28 th October) and “S: Brás” (3 rd February” in Bunheiro. “Sta. maria” in Murtosa and “Sra. da Boa Viagem” and “S. António do Monte” in Monte.

GASTRONOMY - These are some typical dishes and sweets: the delicious stewed eels, eels in oil and sold in barrels; spong cake and sweet yelow paste.

CULTURAL PROPERTY - These places are worth a visit. S. Simão chapel, Sta. Maria mother church (Murtosa); S. Mateus church; S. Paio chapel (Torreira). S. Gonçalo chapel (Bunheiro); S. Gonçalo Fountain (Bunheiro): the ancient glazed tiles; 19 th century house (built with money from Brazil), the typical Murtosa house ( with two columms and yards); forged iron balconies and the seaweed boats, small river-boats, “Xávegas” and “Mercantéis” and “Moliceiros”.

CULTURAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES - Murtosa has a big number of sportive and cultural institutions: A.C.D.M.; S. Marítimo M.; Torreira Praia F.C.; a Sailing Club; Centro Recreativo Murtoense; A. C. Bunheirense; Folk Groups __ As Andorinhas de S. Silvestre; "Os Camponeses da Ria" and "Os Pescadores da Torreira"; Grupo Etnográfico da Murtosa; Orfeão Murtoense; Hunting and Fishing Club; Scouts Groups and "Associação dos Amigos da Ria e do Barco Moliceiro".


HISTORY ___ Until 1973, there were only primary schools in Murtosa. Just in October 1973, a preparatory school was created. In 1976/1977 a new bulding was built. But as the school was getting more and more students, the bulding became small for the needs. That´s why, later on, the school was enlarged. Nowadays it´s called EB 2/3 Padre António Morais da Fonseca, in honour of a priest who was Mayor of Murtosa who has already died.

STUDENTS - In order to characterize our students, we can point out their parents` low instruction, low economical power, as well as some social problems.

EMIGRATION -  Many people in Murtosa are complled to emigrate to Venezuela, France, Germany and specially U.S.A.  (Newark-New Jersey ) from where the emigrants often send money to Murtosa.
